Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

The case is about a patient who was having Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

Gender: Female
Age: 28 yrs.
Date: July 2003

This patient could not conceive even after 3 years of marriage. She was advised ultrasound. On investigations her ultrasound report confirmed the presence of PCOS. The size of the biggest cyst was found to be 2.5 cms. Based on this report, the gynecologist informed the patient that her chances of conceiving were very minimal and the best option that the patient now had was surgery.

This patient came to my clinic on 26th July 2003. I took her clinical history and symptoms but after taking the history I wasn’t satisfied with the test reports hence, I asked the patient for some more investigations such as her blood, urine and hormonal tests. After the patient had done the investigations, one of the investigations of the patient revealed some fault with the liver related enzymes. Hence, I further suggested investigations for Antigen B and C. And the tests confirmed the presence of Hepatitis C. This condition was quite shocking. Initially after the confirmation of diagnosis, medication was started by me to arrest the chronic and neglected degeneration of the liver. Later, there was a noticeable change which was observed in her hormonal levels which further regularized her earlier disturbed menstrual cycles. After 2 and half months, the Ultrasound investigations were repeated and this time the report showed the disappearance of all the cysts.

After three months of my treatment, the patient got pregnant. During the pre-natal period the patient was kept on proper monitoring and medications by me. And at the end of the term, the female delivered a healthy and a beautiful Baby Boy at the Hospital without the presence of any complications.
